Description Read the posts of the other learners and post scholarly responses to two of them. Ask clarifying questions or provide feedback on their reasons why both approaches would be beneficial. St I believe everyone has some characteristics of leadership abilities that distinguish them from others. I have and had the pleasure of working with both. Starting my career, I worked with a Colonel that was hired as the new supervisor of the department. He was transitioning from military to civilian life. His skillset from what he learned in the military was what was needed at the moment. The department had all new hires, including me, and a major campus-wide event that needed a leader with his abilities to take charge and get the job done within two weeks. His focus was on the event and how, as a team, we were going to complete that task. His meeting strategically directed; he identified what was needed to accomplish the task. A daily session for the next two weeks was scheduled, there was no deviation from the meeting’s agenda. Many found his leadership skills intimidated because he was more detailed than personable with his answers and questions. Accord to Northouse, 2018, the skills approach usually is viewed as innate and primarily fixed to an emphasis on skills and abilities that can be learned and developed. As thorough as he was, he never demeaned his team. He didn’t have the charisma or personality you would find in a natural-born leader. If a task could not work, he would say what’s plan B and C. He was competent and very task-driven. My current supervisor’s leadership style is very different from the Colonel. He has more of the trait approach, he is more personable, motivated, and a team-oriented leader. Jung and Sosik (2006) found that charismatic leaders consistently possess traits of self-monitoring, engagement in impression management, motivation to attain social power, and motivation to attain self-actualization (Northouse, 2018). Meetings are scheduled around the team schedule. Team members have an opportunity to engage and learn more about what’s positive and negative going on with the member, which makes the meeting more than the hour it was scheduled. In my opinion, the Skill and Trait approaches are beneficial because I’ve learned the style of leader that is essential to my team and me. The Colonel may have been rigid when it came to the daily meeting, but I learned to stay on schedule and extend the time by thirty minutes, allowing for engagement and feedback. I found to have a structural meeting does not interrupt other team member’s plans. I also take the time to know my team, and I have an open-door policy if a member needs to talk or hear a word of encouragement. udent post down below:
